Shirley Murdock was discovered by one of the GOATs (the late & great Roger Troutman,) as a backing singer for his band Zapp. Shirley started her solo career not too long after, & the rest is history.
Shirley Murdock deserves an abundance of flowers due to the fact that she is a SINGER. We only listen to singers over here my loves.
Her music has been covered and sampled by artists like Kelly Price, Kandi Burruss and many others.
The 80s:
Albums Released: Shirley Murdock, A Woman’s Point of View.
Not too long after, Roger, Shirley & Sugarfoot from Ohio Players recorded tracks. Their first single “Girl, Cut It Out was released in 1985.
After becoming a backing vocalist for Zapp, she was featured on their 1986 hit “Computer Love” with Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band. She also co-wrote the record.
Shirley signed with Elektra Records and released “No More.”
Her signature song “As We Lay” was released & it was a BOP! 🗣🗣
She also released great work on her second album “A Woman’s Point of View.”
The 90s:
