I don’t think anyone loves Christmas as much as Mariah Carey. LIKE EVER!! I actually always loved Mariah’s holiday music because you really get festive darling!!! You can tell the passion and after reading Mariah’s memoir and her explaining what Christmas means to her, she is truly the Queen of Christmas.
Mariah released her first Holiday album in 1994, and to this date has sold over 15 million copies worldwide..becoming one of the best selling albums of all time. The album had covers of traditional classics and original records, one of them being the iconic All I Want For Christmas Is You, which has recently became her 19th number one single on the Hot 100 charts.
Mariah’s sequel holiday album (thirteenth overall,) was titled Merry Christmas II You was released on November 2, 2010 by Island Def Jam. Originally conceived as a remix album to her twelfth studio album (Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel,) the concept was shelved and the sequel to her blockbuster holiday debut album came to fruition. The album is composed of original songs & covers with elements of R&B/Soul and house music. Mariah recorded the album while she became pregnant with her twins Moroccan & Monroe, and I must say pregnant Mariah was SINGING on this album chile!!!
Merry Christmas II You debut and peaked at number one on the Billboard Holiday & R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts with first week sales of 55,000 copies. The album has since been certified Gold by the RIAA!
Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas II You!
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town (Intro)
Written by Haven Gillespie ∙ John Frederick Coots
The album opens with an instrumental introduction to Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, and transitions to the following song.
Oh Santa!

Written by Mariah Carey ∙ Jermaine Dupri ∙ Bryan-Michael Cox
Oh Santa is a songgggg! The R&B Holiday classic is lyrically about the singer making a plea with Santa to bring her beloved significant other for the holidays! The composition and style was praised by critics and rightfully so! The song gets me so in the mood for the holidays. I love it so much. I ain’t ever asked Santa for a man, but if I did I would sing this in my Mariah voice lol. The song was number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary and Holiday Singles Digital Songs charts respectively. You know what makes the song even more amazing? For the tenth anniversary, Mariah rerecorded the song featuring Ariana Grande & Jennifer Hudson! It was so iconic Chile!

When Christmas Comes

Written by Mariah Carey ∙ James Poyser
When Christmas Comes has become one of my favorite holiday songs of all time. It gives me a fulfillment of SOULFUL CHRISTMAS MUSIC. The lyrical content makes it a beautiful uplifting song about helping the world be a better place and loving on each other. Basically it is all about the gift of love. It reminds me of when my elders were here and they were playing the soulful records around the holiday season. It makes my world perfect during my listening experience. The song was released as a single in November 21, 2011, and came out as a duet with John Legend. The song was only Mariah on it is included on the album.

Mariah’s rendition of the classic that is O Come All Ye Faithful/ Hallelujah Chorus is a beautiful duet with her mother Patricia Carey, who was a former Opera singer. Just iconic!!!

The live rendition of O Holy Night is truly immaculate.

The album concludes with the amazing Auld Lang Syne (The New Year’s Anthem) which was re-written by Mariah Carey. With elements of house music, the song is a feel good record. The song peaked at number one on the Holiday Digital Song Sales charts.
Merry Christmas II You truly deserves to receive the same amount of flowers her debut holiday album gets, because I truly feel like it is a gem and one of the most entertaining albums to play around Christmas for the past decade. I definitely recommend giving it a listen and prepare to be around your loved ones playing some good tunes! Happy Holidays! -MW
