Mary J. Blige is one of the biggest R&B superstars in the world. Celebrating 30 years of being in the entertainment industry, Mary is the definition of a legend. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul announced her fourteenth studio album, titled Good Morning Gorgeous alongside with the announcement of her performing at the 2022 NFL Super Bowl Halftime show. After the release of the title track, and a collaboration with producer DJ Khaled, the album was released on February 11, 2022 via her Mary Jane Productions label, which is in partnership with 300 Entertainment.

An album with elements of R&B, & hip hop soul, Good Morning Gorgeous is a continuation from her previous album, 2017’s Strength of a Woman, which heavily discussed the public and nasty divorce from Kendu “Kendon’t’’ (as my dad likes to call him 😂) Isaacs. While it has themes of melachony & emotional tumult, the album also speaks about positive affirmations, joy, optimism and self-love. One thing I enjoy about this album, is that we see Mary on the different side after dealing from a divorce. The Strength of a Woman album might’ve been about the dark side of divorce, Good Morning Gorgeous gives us the optimistic side of leaving a bad situation, and hoping for the best, and moving on with your life.

The album peaked in the top ten on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums at number nine. 30 years into her career, Mary still charting is iconic within itself.

Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you Mary J. Blige’s Good Morning Gorgeous.

GMG (Interlude)

Spoken Verse: Mary J. Blige & H.E.R.]
So, so I got this concept for this, right? (Mmm)
It’s, it’s like how I finally got a chance to say I’m amazing
I never said that in my life about myself, ever (Mmm)
I never thought it
But just recently in my life, I was like I’m amazing ’cause God said I’m amazing, I’m amazing
So, what I started doing along with that
Like, when I was going through all this bad shit in my life
I started waking up and saying, “Good morning, gorgeous”
Mmm, I like that
No matter what I was doing
No matter what I was going through
I look in the mirror, hungover, not hungover, mad, not mad, whatever
Always going through something and because of the thing playing in my head
About, you know, the way the person was chipping at me and tearing me down, tearing me down
And making me look at myself like I wasn’t enough
And I just gave up and I just wanna say, “Good morning, gorgeous”
Wow, I love that
You should start the song off like that, I love everything…
That’s the song
