Atlantic Starr was THAT band in their heyday. They’ve dropped some of the best tunes of all time, that are detrimental to the R&B sound. These legends will always get their flowers from me, due to the fact that they were a band okay?!
Their music has been sampled and covered by the best of course.
The 70s:
Albums Released: Newban, Newban 2, Atlantic Starr, Straight to the Point.
This group started as Newban in the late 70s, & eventually became Atlantic Starr.
The 80s:
Albums Released: Radiant, Brilliance, Yours Forever, As the Band Turns, All in the Name of Love, We’re Movin’ Up.
The 80s belonged to Atlantic Starr..they had hits on the R&B charts like “Send For Me,” “Love Me Down,” “Circles,” “Touch A Four Leaf Clover.”
Even album cuts like Closer from their “Brilliance” album is a gem.
The group’s lead singer Sharon Bryant left the group to pursue a solo career, so she was replaced by Barbara Weathers. Their 1985 album “As the Band Turns” was one of their most successful album releases. With songs like “Silver Shadow” and “Secret Lovers,” they had a string of bops from this amazing album.
My favorite song from Atlantic Starr is “If Your Heart Isn’t in It!” It’s simply a masterpiece.
The group saw their biggest success with their 1987 “All in the Name of Love” album. They scored a number hit on the pop and R&B charts with “Always.” The band continued to drop hit after hit going into the 90s.
The 90s:
Albums Released: Love Crazy, Time, All Because of You, Legacy.
The band had a big hit in the 90s with Masterpiece. If it’s not one of your favorite Atlantic Starr songs, I’m judging!
Atlantic Starr was one of the best bands in the 80s, & so criminally underrated at the same time.
If you’re unfamiliar with their work, please take a listen. They’re legends who simply deserve an abundance of flowers.
