Exactly how many times does Mariah have to have a comeback? Well everyone deserves a redemption story, and Mariah receives hers with her 15th studio effort “Caution.” Her first LP since 2014’s “Me. I am Mariah…The Elusive Chantuese,” “Caution” is telling y’all faves to sit back, and watch the QUEEN of Music reclaim her throne. After having many people doubt whether Mariah can sing or not in recent years, she shuts all of those rumors DOWN.
What people need to realize that Mariah is the Queen of Music. When she popularized the collaboration of Hip Hop/R&B & Pop with Fantasy, she didn’t know how much of a TREND it would be in today’s market. She continued that trend on this record with “The Distance.”
“Caution” is giving Mariah the universal acclaim she should’ve received with her past couple of albums, but I’ll take it! The album is ten seconds in. Every song is a BOP, no fillers. My favorite is “Giving Me Life.” The production is simply remarkable on this song, sampling a scene from the 1983 movie “Trading Places.” It features a rap from the legend Slick Rick, & produced by Dev Hynes under his moniker Blood Orange.
Another great tune from this album is the empowerment anthem “A No No!” Sampling Lil Kim’s “Crush On You,” Mariah SNAPS. Period! The outro is LIFE. Everything.
Caution is easily one of my favorite Mariah album in the past decade. I know I am Mariah fan, so I really tried not to be biased writing this review.
If you’ve been doubting Mariah, you need to shift that energy elsewhere. To see the people FINALLY giving Mariah the recognition she’s been deserving of is great. Y’all should do it more often. Caution can sit with her discography, because the entire list is simply flawless. The Queen of Music is here to stay. ❤️
