Keith Sweat: Give Our Legends Their Flowers.

Keith Sweat is the KING! For almost 4 decades, Keith has blessed us with some bops that’ll make you SWEAT! Keith is getting his flowers today, because the OG KNOWS how to be a musician. He can teach the current generation how to build a LEGACY okay?!

Keith discovered one of my favorite R&B groups, Silk! Keith wrote & produced on their debut album, giving them some of our favorite bops like “Freak Me,” & “Lose Control.” The Group would go on to have more successful songs like “Meeting In My Bedroom,” & “If You.”

Keith’s production catalog is also pretty sharp! But we knew that though!

Another group Keith discovered was Kut Klose! Known for being featured on Keith’s “Get Up On It” & “I Like,” Kut Klose deserves more appreciation!

Keith’s music has been sampled like crazy! I mean, his music has influenced generations. That’s how you build a legacy.

The 80s:

Keith’s time in a group he joined on the mid 70s, gave him the drive and ambition that he has as a musician. He left the group in 1984 to pursue his solo career. He was credited as a co-writer & producer for G.Q.’s last song!

Sweat signed to Elektra, & released his debut album. Produced by Keith & the legend Teddy Riley, (Make It Last Forever) is known for being one of the earliest albums to introduce the New Jack Swing genre to the world.

The 90s:

Keith’s next album “I’ll Give All My Love To You” is one of my favorites! This album continued Keith’s reign as the King of New Jack Swing with bops like “Merry Go Round,” & “Make You Sweat.”

The title track is my ultimate favorite song from Keith. Y’all know I love an ol NASTY ballad.

Keith kept the bops coming! He gave us some of the best songs ever!

Keith formed the group LSG with Gerald Levert & Johnny Gill! The group gave us QUALITY TUNES.
