When we speak of talented Black musicians, D’Angelo takes the cake. He self taught himself on how to play the piano, & has the range. Literally!
D’Angelo came into the music scene in the early 90s, & became apart of a soul revival..& is a hugely responsible for the Neo-Soul movement along with peers Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and many others.
D’Angelo deserves his flowers because he is the definition of an ARTIST. His musicianship is simply unmatched!
D’Angelo’s collaborations are pure gems. 🙌🏾
Brown Sugar (1995):
Favorites: Lady, Brown Sugar, Jonz in My Bonz, Sh⭐️t, Damn, Motherf⭐️cker, Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine, Cruisin’, Higher.
Brown Sugar is a classic R&B album. 25 years later, music lovers still appreciate the rawness, the gems and everything about this golden album. From the song of ultimate betrayal (Sh⭐️t, Damn, Motherf⭐️cker) to his cover of Smokey Robinson’s (Crusin,) D’Angelo revived soulful music with this one.
Voodoo (2000):
Favorites: Devil’s Pie, Left & Right, Africa, Untitled (How Does It Feel,) The Root, The Line, Playa Playa, Send It On, Chicken Grease.
D’Angelo came with the HEAT with Voodoo! Dissatisfied with the state of mainstream R&B music at the time, he paid homage to the legends who came before him. An album full of elements of funk, neo soul & R&B, Voodoo is an album you must hear before you die. That’s it. That’s the statement.
Black Messiah (2014):
Favorites: 1000 Deaths, The Door, Really Love, Prayer, Betray My Heart, Ain’t That Easy, The Charade, Sugah Daddy, Back to the Future (Part I & II,) Another Life.
D’Angelo’s first album in 14 years is simply impeccable. Credited to D’Angelo and the Vanguard, Black Messiah is one of best soulful albums of this decade.
Being critically acclaimed, he released the album earlier than expected due to the controversy surrounding Ferguson and Eric Garner at the time. It’s really the soundtrack for our history.
D’Angelo is one of the most talented musicians to grace the earth, and honestly we need more music from this king! His artistry reigns supreme cause he literally speaks from the soul. He truly deserve more flowers from the general public! -MJ.
