⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Angela Tomasa Bofill (1954-2024,) was truly one of a kind. An accomplished singer-songwriter and composer, Angela’s remarkable career spanned over four decades, Angela wowed audiences all over the world with her remarkable voice and timeless records. By 1979, Angela released her debut album Angie the year prior…and had a top 40 R&B hit with her version of This Time I’ll Be Sweeter.
Angela released her second studio album Angel of the Night by GRP Records and Arista Records. Angel of the Night is one of my girl’s strongest works, due to her vocal and musical capabilities. It’s also important to note the importance of Angela’s versatility as a musician is incorporated through elements of jazz, quiet storm, R&B and latin music. I appreciate artists who gives us masterpieces and excel well at doing so, and Angela was totally one of those people.
Angel of the Night peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums, 10 on the Top R&B Albums & 34 on the Billboard 200 charts respectively.
Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you Angela Bofill’s Angel of the Night.
Side one:
I Try
Written by Angela Bofill
The album opens with the fan favorite and best album cut you’ll ever hear, which is titled I Try.
I try to do the best I can for you
Angela Bofill, I Try, 1979
But it seems it’s not enough
From a lyrical perspective, I Try is about the singer wanting to express to the man she love that she is giving her all and it is not being reciprocated like it should be! & I don’t like that for him because our girl was singing her heart OUT for him baby! A classic record from Angela.
***I Try was covered by Will Downing for his 1991 album A Dream Fulfilled.
People Make The World Go ‘Round
Written by Thom Bell ∙ Linda Creed
Angela Bofill’s version of People Make The World Go ‘Round is artistically different from The Stylistics’ version by being more uptempo and fast paced compared to the original. I would say out of all of the versions, this one shines more brighter to me than the others.
People Make The World Go ‘Round was sampled by:
- Naughty by Nature for their 1995 song World Go Round
- Westside Connection for their 1996 song Gangstas Make the World Go Round
- Scarface for his 1997 song Money Makes the World Go ‘Round
- Rick Ross for his 2017 song I Think She Like Me featuring Ty Dolla $ign
- Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre for their 2024 song Fore Play featuring BJ The Chicago Kid
Angel of the Night
Written by Bunny Hull ∙ Jim Devlin

Title tracks are essential to the album at hand, because it gives us a lot of insight to the context of the album and what it meant to the artist. Angel of the Night is lyrically about the singer expressing how this angel aligns life so perfectly with her words and it is soothing to be honest. The way the angel carries herself as a guardian of love with so much wisdom. Can I also add how angelic Angela sounds on the title track? A SONG! Released as the second single, Angel of the Night peaked at 67 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart in 1980.
Rainbow Child (Little Pas)
Written by Angela Bofill
Rainbow Child (Little Pas) is a beautiful record about the birth of a child and how God is on his side to guide him through his life. The song was released as a B-side to Angel of the Night & What I Wouldn’t Do (For the Love of You).
Side two:
What I Wouldn’t Do (For the Love of You)
Written by Jack Perricone ∙ Denise Utt

What I Wouldn’t Do (For the Love of You) was released as the lead single from the album, and rightfully so. From a lyrical perspective, the song speaks to the singer expressing how much she loves her person. The instant regret she has not letting him know how she feels makes the song even more magical. YOU WANT TO FEEL THE LYRICS, and Angela is going to make you feel every lyric and emotion.
What I Wouldn’t Do (For the Love of You) peaked at 18 on the Hot Black Singles chart the year of 1979.
The Feelin’s Love
Written by Angela Bofill
The Feelin’s Love IS one of my favorite Angela penned songs! A song about loving, wanting and needing someone you are enamored with. Whew. I love the production, and the vocal arrangement on this record.
The Feelin’s Love was sampled by
2 Chainz & Lil Wayne for their 2023 song Oprah & Gayle featuring Benny the Butcher.
Love To Last
Written by John Madden
Love to Last is a beautiful ode to the definition of love. Definitely an Angela song that is classic and essential to her catalog.
The Voyage
Written by Angela Bofill
The album closes with The Voyage, and it is a song I love a lot because I can envision this whole song take place with each and every lyric. The storytelling on The Voyage is truly impeccable as well. Like my goodness!
Angela Bofill has had an illustrious recording career, and has released a lot of amazing albums, but it is truly something mesmerizing about Angel of the Night. I’ve recently been listening to her entire discography, and Angel of the Night stood out the most so much…that I searched my favorite record store’s bins like crazy for it, and by pure luck I found it. It’s that wonderful of an album. Angela was one of a kind, and her presence in music is totally missed.
